  • Abigail, I cannot go before the congregation when I know you have not opened with me. What did you do with her in the forest?
  • Uncle, we did dance; let you tell them I confessed it—and I’ll be whipped if I must be. But they’re speakin’ of witchcraft. Betty’s not witched.
  • Spare me! You forget nothin’ and forgive nothin’. Learn charity, woman. I have gone tiptoe in this house all seven month since she is gone. I have not moved from there to there without I think to please you, and still an everlasting funeral marches round your heart. I cannot speak but I am doubted, every moment judged for lies, as though I come into a court when I come into  this house!

  • Act I: Abigail confesses to dancing in the forest to Reverand Paris
  • Judge Hathorne-it were another sort that hanged till now. Rebecca Nurse is no Bridget that lived three year with Bishop before she married him. John Proctor is not Isaac Ward that drank his family to ruin. (to Danforth) I would to God it were not so, Excellency, but these people have great weight yet in the town. Let Rebecca stand upon the gibbet and send up some righteous prayer, and I fear she'll wake a vengeance on you.

  • Act II: John and Elizabeth Proctor have an argument about John cheating with Abigail

  • Act III: John Proctor in court with Rebecca Nurse. Along with other characters John Hale and Danforth
  • Act IV: Reverend Parris [Right], Danforth [Left], and Hathorne [Middle] talk about the state of Salem with the accusations of Rebecca Nurse and John Proctor. They worry what to do because they don't want Salem to end up like Andover.
  • Pray you. (to Parris) How do you propose, then?
