  • Total wellness is made up of social wellness and mental/emotional wellness. Social wellness includes having healthy relationships with the people around you like friends and family. It is important to build healthy relationships and friendships with these people. Mental/emotional wellness is how you think, feel, and act which helps determine how you handle stress and make choices. There are three stages of stress: the alarm stage, the resistance stage, and the exhaustion stage. It is also important to manage your stress and stay mentally/emotionally well.(Module 1 Lesson 2-4)
  • Selecting Physical Activities
  • Physical wellness means to stay in shape by eating healthy and exercising daily. The five health-related components of physical activity include body fat composition, flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and cardiovascular endurance. To stay physically healthy, you should create a SMART goal. SMART goals are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. These goals are created specifically for you to achieve and can help you stay physically well.(Module 2 Lesson 2-3)
  • Lifestyle Guidelines
  • The three types of training that should be incorporated into any physical plan are cardiovascular, resistance, and flexibility training. Cardio training exercises the heart, lungs and blood vessels. Resistance training improves muscular strength and endurance. Flexibility training exercises the range of motion of a joint. But before starting a physical plan, your current health and fitness levels should be assessed through subjective and objective assessments. It is also important to include the FITT principle (Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type) into your physical fitness. (Module 3 Lesson 1-6)
  • Before choosing a physical activity to participate in you should consider health conditions, personality and attitude, reason for participation, environmental considerations, and how much the activity will cost. The weather is an important factor of your safety while participating in an activity. You should wear appropriate clothing for the activity, but also appropriate for the weather. Another factor to consider while physically active is your caloric balance. Caloric balance is a comparison between how many calories you burn and how many calories you consume daily.(Module 4 Lesson 2-4)
  • Being physically, socially, and emotionally/mentally well has many benefits like decrease risk of disease, live longer, increased confidence, reduced depression, and healthier bones. Everyone comes in many different shapes and sizes but the three general types are ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph. Body composition is the percentages of fat, bone, muscle, and water in your body. A healthy body composition includes includes a lower percentage of body fat and a higher percentage of fat-free mass. A lot of injuries can also occur while physically active but making sure to warm up, drink fluids, wear protective gear, and cool down can reduce injuries.(Module 5 Lesson 1-5)
