Hernan Cortez (1521) explored to bring back Gold, Glory, and God for Spain. He also conquered the Aztecs and became governor of New Spain (Mexico)

Pineda (1519) was sent to explore Texas by Jamaica to find a new route to the Pacific. He couldn't a new route to the Pacific, but he was the 1st one to map the Texas Coast
Cabeza de Vaca (1528-1536) was in Texas because of a shipwreck during one of his expeditions, and met the Karankawas as a result. He was also Texas' first surgeon and first explorer. When he came back he told tales of gold cities, and led to more exploration.
Coronado (1540-1542) went to Texas to try to find the 7 cities of gold Cabeza De Vaca told about. (He couldn't find it) But he discovered buffalo, villages, andthe "sea of grass" (TX Panhnadle)
La Salle (1685-1687) Was in Texas when he got lost trying to find the Mississippi River. His crew wanted to go back, but La Salle refused and got murdered by his own crew. The Spanish then got paranoid then decided to settle in Texas instead of just exploring it.
