The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: The biggest weapon/destructive forces can be thoughts, suspicion, fear, and attitudes.
In "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" By Rod Serling, one of the main themes is that thoughts, suspicion, fear, and attitudes are big weapons and destructive forces. The first scene in which Les Goodman's car starts all by itself supports the theme because when the car started everyone was very suspicious and thought why did his car start all by itself. Then they were all scared and were also suspicious of him so they thought that him and his family were the ones that the monsters sent before them. So then because they thought that they started to gather around him, his car, and his house and they started questioning him, and him and the crowd were all also very nervous. The second scene also supports the theme because when Charlie shoots the figure and they all go and see that it is Pete Van Horn they were all caught up in the moment and were all really scared that when they saw it was him they all got mad at Charlie. Then they all got suspicious on why he shot him so fast. Then they a were thinking and suspecting that he was the monster and then started chasing him, and when he got out out of a fight he went to his house were they all questioned him. At the same time they were all very mad at him. The third and final theme supports the theme because they were all suspicious and scared of what was happening they all had different thoughts of who it was. They also were all caught up in the moment and they all went out on each other. Then people started chasing and fighting people they thought was the monster, all because of they were suspicious of everyone and they were all scared and fearful. People were also looking for a scapegoat so they did not get beaten or blamed. In conclusion they most powerful theme for this story is that many big weapons and destructive forces are suspicion, thoughts, fear, and attitudes.
It was the afternoon on Maple Street when all of a sudden Les Goodman's car started all by itself. Then all the people across the street and from the neighborhood started walking to him including Steve, Charlie, Tommy, Tommy's mom, and a few other neighbors. Then they all started walking to him and started questioning him.
It was around night time on Maple Street when Charlie shot the dark figure that was walking up to them and the crowd and all the neighbors then realized it was Pete Van Horn. Then all the people were getting mad at Charlie on why he shot him so fast. The they fought with him and then he got out of a fight and ran to his house were they questioned him.
This was right after Charlie was getting in trouble and being questioned on Maple Street, same time around night time. Charlie just said that the boy Tommy was the monster, but then other people said it was Charlie and then other people said it was the boy and others. Then everyone went and fought and chased the person who they thought was the monster, all chaos.
