  • ''Miss Caroline, he's a Cunningham.''
  • ''I  beg your pardon, Jean Louise?''
  • ''Walter's one of the Cunninghams, Miss Caroline.''
  • Jean is about to talk to his teacher Miss Caroline to explain about  an certain student in his class.
  • ''That's okay, ma'am, you'll et to know all the county folks after a while. They never took anything they can't pay back --  church baskets and no scrip stamps. 
  • Jean Is now discussing with Miss Caroline about the student and he is a Cunningham but Ms. Caroline is not understanding .
  • They never took anything off of anybody, they get along on what they have. They don't have much, but they get along on it.
  • He is now still trying to explain out the student but she still fails to see what Jean is saying about him.

  • Jean now tells her that she will understand and get to know the students of the county the longer she stays here and get to know them more.
