Hello, class! My name is Ryan and I am a a Pre-Business Major, and Active Duty Sailor that lives in America's Finest City, San Diego, California.
I have been in the Navy for over 18 years now and have been stationed on a ship, with the Marines, overseas in Italy, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as well as the Presidential retreat Camp David under the Obama Administration.
My travels to 32 countries have given me a deep appreciation for nature and protecting the environment. One of my favorite tours in the Navy was in Washington State, where I got to live in a cabin on the sea in a gorgeous forest. I spent almost every weekend hiking or camping in nearby forests.
I am deeply concerned for our situation. In America, it seems everything is politicized to the point where it politics is like a religion for many people. In this environment there is no compromise, just people shouting blame at one another and never working together for practical solutions to our problems.
Being good stewards of our environment and treating it respect should not be political as it is in everyone's best interest to preserve, and conserve our natural resources as we only have one planet and we don't get do overs.
I don't think much can be done on a large scale to better our environment as everyone is too busy shouting at each other to even identify and address our environmental problems, much like the movie "Don't Look Up." I believe the best thing we can do is do what's right with the things in our personal control. I hope to apply the knowledge from this course into my life in the business world once I graduate to make an impact in my local community.
