This is an Sodium (Na) atom. See the three electron shells?
Electrons are part of the atom they freely float around the outside. Attracted to the center due to their negative charge. When the outer shell is not full as it is here in Sodium the atom will interact with other atoms and share this outer shell electron with others.
Electrons are the star of the show in the first shell there are up to two electrons allowed and the second shell holds eight thirst can hold 18
You've lost an electron Na are you sure you're alright!
When an atom gives away its electron is them it said to have a positive charge.
Hold on let me get this straight is an atom gives away its electron it becomes positive what happens to the atom that gained the electron? Does it become negative? What about sharing like in H20 they share right>
This is H2O two Hydrogen atoms and one Oxygen atom. They are attracted to each other because the Oxygen have only 6 electrons in its outer shell and wants 8 to be happy while the Hydrogen have one electron but wants two this sharing of the outermost shell bonds them together and why water droplets look the way they do.
It is like being in love you want to be around each other
