Kyle gets himself grounded for a week when he broke a window trying to beat his older brother in a race. On the bus ride to school, Kyle discovers an extra-credit essay due that morning is actually the entry to a contest. The prize is getting to spend a night in the library before it opens to the public. He only wrote one line that expresses his enthusiasm for ballons.
Mr.Lemoncello only chooses 12 students and Kyle is picked. The kids enjoy their night but the next morning they find out that there's a twist and the first person to escape from the library will star in Mr.Lemoncello's commercials and be paid a lot of money. The kids eventually divide into two teams one led by Kyle and one lead by Charles.
Charles and his teammates don't trust each other. Charles tricks one of his teammates into stealing to go ahead. His teammate gets removed from the game and Charles' remaining teammate joins Kyles team.
Mr. Lemoncello finds out that Charles tricked his teammate and he was the one behind it. Charles also gets eliminated. Now Kyles team has to finish the hunt to get out.
Kyles team ends up winning the game in the appropriate amount of time. Kyles team also got the money, fame, and also they made new friends. They all spit everything evenly. The end
