Today was the day, I finally signed on. The reason I did it was because my father died end of last year. And we began to run out of money. So I signed on, the things I am to miss are my mother and little brother.
Today we began our journey, I slowly began to regret my decision once we left St. Annes Church, with so many people praying to keep themselves safe, I was scared for my own safety . My hands burn while I paddle and when we stop my muscles ache. I get along with my brigade and it is filled with nice men. I miss my family and long to see them again.
We decided to run the rapids. It was the worst and most wonderful experience of my life. The worst because I terrified and scared for my life, but the best because it was a thrilling experience.
Crossing Lake Superior was the worst experience of my life!! When the day started the water was calm and silent, soon a storm stared to roll in but we didn't take much worry to it. Then we rowed toward the shoreline for we thought it safer. Soon after that it stared to pour. Then we began to take on water. When we finally got to shore we dumped out our canoe.
Today we finally made it to Grand Portage. When we saw the fort approaching in the distance, the brigade went into a frenzy. We began to paddle the fastest we ever had. When we got to shore we were welcomed by a man and his daughter who showed us around the fort.
Welcome to Grand Portage!
Today was the day we left Grand Portage. Me and all my crew-mates all decided to go back to Lachine. The reason I want to go back is so that I can see my beloved family. Looking back on my experiences I think becoming a voyageur was one of the best choices I have ever made.
