Today, we will learn about Greek democracy. It has been around since 500 B.C. .This has really shaped democracy today. Lets Go!
When democracy first began, only adult men who owned land could vote and participate in the democracy.Athens was a direct democracies which meant they didn't have representatives. People voted directly for leaders.
Democracy was very important to Greece because it had such a large population. Many people contributed to the democracy in Athens.
There were two people who had changed democracy to open it up to more people. Solon allowed the poor to participate and vote. Cleisthenes allowed equal rights for all citizens.
Also in the greek democracy, citizens would hold assembly meetings to vote and choose people to lead them.
However, democracy has changed since. Most democracies now are representative democracies because the population is too big for a direct democracy and they elect representatives to talk for he citizens.
