  • What are we learning about in today's addition of Greek History?
  • Today, we will learn about Greek democracy. It has been around since 500 B.C. .This has really shaped democracy today. Lets Go!
  • When democracy first began, only adult men who owned land could vote and participate in the democracy.Athens was a direct democracies which meant they didn't have representatives. People voted directly for leaders.
  • Democracy was very important to Greece because it had such a large population. Many people contributed to the democracy in Athens.
  • There were two people who had changed democracy to open it up to more people. Solon allowed the poor to participate and vote. Cleisthenes allowed equal rights for all citizens.
  • Also in the greek democracy, citizens would hold assembly meetings to vote and choose people to lead them.
  • However, democracy has changed since. Most democracies now are representative democracies because the population is too big for a direct democracy and they elect representatives to talk for he citizens.
