The Supreme Court rules the white primary unconstitutional. This causes unrest, because blacks can now vote in the primary.
The white primary is unconstitutional! Court adjourned.
Eugene Talmadge runs for GA governor and wins, promising to renew the white primary. He thought that it only applied to Texas, and GA could still use the white primary. However, he was wrong and he couldn't bring it back.
Bring back White Primary!!
However, he dies before being sworn in. This causes 3 different people to claim to be governor.
Herman Talmadge (Eugene's son) , Ellis Arnall (current governor), and M.E. Thompson (lieutenant governor elect).
Each had their own reason to be governor, but Herman Talmadge had the most votes, making him the most likely to win.
I am the lieutenant governor elect, the constitution says I should be governor.
I had the most votes and was chosen by the General Assembly
I am the current governor, I should stay untill the next election.
Until it is descovered that all of Hermen's votes were in the same handwriting, and were written by either dead people, or people that didn't exist. M.E. Thompson is now the governor, as the Constitution declares him so.
All of the write-in vote for Herman Talmadge are all in the same handwriting, not to mention some were written by non-existant or dead people. Also, it doesn't matter. Thompson is lieutenant governor, and the Constitution says that he should be governor.
