  • In 2001, after the attack on 9/11, America declares the War on Terror
  • Shortly after, in 2002, Canadian soldiers are sent to Afghanistan to fight
  • Nearly 200 Canadians died over in Afghanistan and they all had to be brought home.
  • The remains were to be taken from Trenton to Toronto, where a edical examiner was awaiting them.

  • Canadians came from far and wide to line the shoulder and sides of the road.
  • The road was unoffically coined "The Highway of Heroes" back in 2002 after the first convoy took place. 
  • It gave Canadians an opportunity to show respect and honor those who fought.
  • Highway 401 Toronto
  • In 2007, the federal government officially renamed it, "The Highway of Heroes".
  • Since then there has been a group, HOH Tribute, which is working to plant trees along the route as a memorial for the fallen soldiers.
