  • Newtons 1st Law
  • Newtons 1st Law
  • Newtons 1st Law
  • Newton's 1st law states that an object will stay at rest or in constant velocity unless it is acted upon by a force. In this example the ball is at rest on the ground and the boy is about to pick the ball up.
  • Newton's 2nd Law
  • The boy picks up the ball which is Newton's 1st law because the ball is at rest but the boy acts on it with an unbalanced force which is him picking the ball up.
  • Newton's 2nd Law
  • The boy passes the ball and it is going in a constant speed and direction until the ball is caught by the other person. The person that catches the ball is the unbalanced force that stops the balls motion.
  • Newton's 2nd Law
  • The boy is about to shoot the ball.
  • The boy needs to apply the right amount of force to the ball in order for it to go into the hoop. Force = Mass x Acceleration
  • If he was using a heavier ball the boy would need to use even more force to make the ball go into the hoop. Or if he was dribbling the ball, the amount of force applied to the ball changes how high or low the ball bounces. If you use a lot of force to bounce a basketball it will bounce high and fast or if you use a bit of force the ball will bounce low and slow this is because the more force force applied to the ball means the more the ball will accelerate and vice versa.
