St Therese was born 2nd Jan 1873, Alencon France of Marie Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin and Louis Martin.
Her mother died when she was 4, she turned to The Virgin Mary and from an early age she was inspired to be a saint.
Therese came down with a painful illness causing her to suffer from delusions, the doctors could not work it out, however when her sister placed a statue of The Virgin Mary at the foot of her bed, Therese felt her mental and physical health return very quickly.
But Therese’s mind was made up, she felt God calling to her to join the cloistered life. She was so determined she travelled to the Vatican to personally petition the Pope.
Breaking Protocol she spoke to the Pope asking for permission to enter a covenant, Pope Leo XIII was taken aback but agreed. She joined her two sisters in Carmelite convent of Lisieux shortly after.
St Therese died tragically at age 24 from tuberculosis, but during her short time she joined and saved souls of the people.
