Elya is not here to carry me up the mountain... I have no choice but to curse him and his decendents
I forgot to cary Madame Zeroni up the mountain! I feel terrible!
My Theme is "don't make a promise unless you can keep it". My evidance for this is about the consequences to Elya Yelnats and his decendents for not keeping his promise to Madame Zeroni.
In this scene, Elya is on a ship to America when he realizes that he forgot to keep his promise to Madame Zeroni. If you break a promise with someone, you will feel bad that you kind of betrayed them, just like Elya did.
Curse you No-Good-Dirty-Rotten-Pig- Stealing-Great-Great- Grandfather!
The modern Stanley Yelnats isn't the only one with the curse; All of Elya's desendents were. Stanley's great grandfather was rich until robbed by Kate Barlow. I chose this peice of evidance because it is an effect of breaking a promise.
The whole point of Elya carrying the pigs up the mountain was to marry Myra Menke. But on the last day he was supposed to carry the pig and Madame Zeroni up the mountain, he took a bath instead. This resulted in Elya's pig weighing exactly as much as Igor's, and in the end, he didn't get to marry Myra. I use this as evidance because it proves breaking promises have bad consequences.
Elya or Igor......
If you break a promise, another consequenceis that you might not be trusted anymore or you will be made fun of it, such as the Yelnats family always curses their No-Good-Dirty-Rotten-Great-Great-Grandfather.
This scene is supporting evidance to my theme because Elya's falure to keep Madame Zeroni's promise supposedly caused the Stanley Yelnats Curse, wich sent the modern Stanley to Camp Green Lake- where all you do is dig holes.
