We'll meet back here in eleven years to read each other's letters.
Ellie's mother had an affair so Ellie's father moves him and Ellie to San Diego. On their last night together Ellie and her best friend, Nolan, write each other letters of how they feel about each other in case they don't see each other again. Eleven years later, on June 1st, they will meet at the same spot in front of the big oak tree to dig up the tackle box with the letters. This could be their one last chance.
Eleven years later and Nolan is a professional basketball player. Him and Ellie have lost all contact. He is not in a relationship.
Ellie works at a hair salon and has a seven year old daughter, Kinzie. She isn't married and lives in an apartment with a friend and her daughter. She lost contact with her mother and father.
Ellie was reconnected to her mother, Caroline, after eleven years of no communication. Nolan went to Caroline's work one afternoon and was informed that Caroline found Ellie. Ellie did not want to see Nolan after all the years because she felt he would pity her. The date June 1st is coming up, did they both remember the importance of it?
Nolan went to the big oak tree at midnight on June 1st prepared to camp out all day, in case Ellie remembered. On Ellie's way back to San Diego she stopped by the park. They dug up the tackle box, read each other's letters, and it was as if time never got in between them.
Nolan won his basketball championship and got the only girl he ever loved, Ellie Tucker. They plan to get married and Ellie is moving back to Savannah.
