Hey there, I am a plant, if you didn't know. But not only am i a plant, but I am a eukaryote. Now, what's a eukaryote? Let's take a look at a eukaryotic cell.
This is what one of my cells look like. I'm a plant cell, so it looks different from human cells. But we still have the same organelles. Those are the things you see in my cell. They all have certain functions in the cell. Like your organs. Let's take a closer look and let the organelles introduce themselves.
I am the cytoplasm, and move things around the cell
I am the cell membrane and I control what enters and exits the cell
I am the cell wall. I'm only found in plant cells. I protect the cell and give it structure
I am the mitochondrion. I burn the cells' sugar and I turn that into energy and oxygen. I help the cell breathe.
I am the vacoule. I store all of the plant cells' nutrients, but mostly, I store all of the water to keep the plant from wilting, and dying .
I am chloroplast.I'm the one who does photosynthesis in the plant cell only. I'm not found in humans at all.
You can't see us, but we are the ribosomes. We make proteins for the cell!
The nucleus is the brain of the cell. It controls the cell and holds all the genetic material in our body that has information about us.
So now you know all about the plant cell. My cells are eukaryotic because they have a nucleus. They also have organized DNA unlike prokaryotes who have loose DNA. Let's tkae a look at a prokaryotic cell..
You see on the table where the magnifying glass is? Do you see those gray ovals? Well that's bacteria. Bacteria is everywhere, but you see more of it in schools. Anyway, bacteria is a type of prokaryote. It has no nucleus. The DNA is circular and loose. Also bacteria are unicellular, like most prokaryotes.
Well, that concludes this lesson. I hope you enjoyed it. Let's have a little review. We learned about a eukaryotic cell and 8 of the organelles, and their functions. Then we learned about the prokaryotic cell. I know it's difficult to remember, so I'll help. Eukar=You can have a nucleus. Pro=No nuclues. Now, can you go up to your instructor, and tell him or her this information without looking here? Try it!
