  • Honestly, I've been stressed. It feels hard to breathe a lot of the time.
  • Would you like to try a breathing technique with me? It helps to calm our nervous systems and get out of the fight, flight, freeze response. 
  • Sure, I guess.
  • Great. We'll breathe in through our nose, and then blow out through our mouths like we're blowing through a straw.
  • Okay, I'm ready to try.

  • You did that perfectly. The most important part of this technique is to make your exhale longer than your inhale.
  • I actually feel a bit better now. It feels like there's more air in my lungs.
  • I'm really glad that was helpful for you. I use that breathing strategy any time that I feel stressed or in need of a big breath of air.
