  • W. E. B Du Bois was born on February 32, 1868. He was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. His mother was Mary Silvina Du Bois, she worked as a domestic worker. His father was Alfred Du Bois, he left when W. E. B Du Bois was a young boy.

  • W. E. B Du Bois fought against discrimination and racism. The struggle of African Americans to secure their rights had sometimes led to violence when they had their protests.

  • W. E. B Du Bois was a pioneer in the Civil Rights Movement. He was also a scholar, editor, and an African American activist. Before he died, he had written 17 books and was the first African American to graduate from his high school.
  • Legacy
  • W. E. B Du Bois received encouragement from local high school teachers. He attended Fisk University in Tennessee for 3 years, then he went to Harvard University and earned his B.A and Ph.D. Sadly, his mom died when he was only 16 years old.

  • NAACP was founded on the belief that nonviolent protests and legal actions were the best ways to ensure equal rights for all Americans. The NAACP has persuaded presidents to end racial discrimination in hiring and military service.
  • W. E. B Du Bois was a founding member of the NAACP, it is the largest and oldest civil rights organization in America. NAACP grew from 60 people to a membership of more than 60,000 people. His memorial is W. E .B Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan African Culture.
