Storyboard Text

  • I order 600,000 men of my Grand Army to invade Russia!
  • Napoleon knew that if he did not punish the Russians for ignoring the Continental System, other nations would follow.
  • The Russians need to be punished!
  • The Russians retreated hundreds of miles, and burned their own villages and countryside to keep Napoleons army from finding food.
  • These darn Russians keep retreating.
  • In late October, Napoleon led the "Great Retreat" west across Russia. Fewer than 40,000 of the original 600,000 soldiers arrived back in Poland in January 1814.
  • My army is lacking food and supplies.
  • We finally reached Moscow, but the city is ablaze.
  • Napoleon was sent into exile on the island of Elba by other European states. The victorious powers restored monarchy to France in the person of Louis XVII, brother of the executed king, Louis XVI.
  • They put king Louis's brother Louis XVII as the new leader of France. Why?!!
  • I cant believe I have been sent into exile!
  • Once returned to France, Napoleon made an army of devoted veterans. On June 18, 1815 he was defeated by a combined British and Prussian army under the Duke of Wellington.
  • I have returned to France and raised another army.
  • Napoleon was exiled to St. Helena and remained there until his death in 1821.
  • I give up!
  • I have been exiled again!
