  • We should get rid of The Articles of Confederation!
  • We should only make small changes to Articles of Confederation!
  • Hey that was my idea!
  • Why do you want to keep the Articles of Confederation...
  • The delegates were arguing over what should they do with the Articles of Confederation.
  • After a few days, their was two major plans, The Virginia Plan and the New Jersey Plan.
  • I propose that there should be 2 houses, the upper house called the senate in which each state no matter its size will have 2 representatives. In the House of Representatives or the lower house, the representatives were chosen based on population.
  • Edward Randolph of Virginia proposed the Virginia Plan and all of the larger states liked the idea.
  • I propose the Virginia Plan, this will be a new federal constitution which will give supreme power to the central government. Legislature would be made out of 2 houses and representatives and will be chosen based on Population.
  • I propose the New Jersey Plan, this plan will have a one house legislature. The plan will each state an equal number of votes in the federal government. The plan also allowed the Federal government to tax citizens in all states and allowed the government to control commerce.
  • William Patterson proposed the New Jersey Plan and all of the smaller states liked the idea.
  • After Arguing for a long time, Robert Sherman proposed a compromise plan and all of the states liked it. this compromise came to be known as, The Great Compromise.
