James I believed in the Divine Rights of Kings. Which caused tension between parliament and monarchy.
All hail Charles ll!
No you don't!!
From the tension a Civil War broke out. The supporters of the king were the Cavaliers and the supporters of parliament were called the Roundheads.
Welcome! Let me show you around.
James I was publicly beheaded. Oliver Cromwell sets up military dictatorship and they abolish monarchy and set up a commonwealth.
We have created the Bill of Rights.
Monarchy was returned by 1660. The new king was Charles ll. He did not believe in Divine Rights of Kings. He tried to keep peace between parliament and monarchy. He died in 1685, and his brother James ll became king.
William of Orange with Mary of Orange accepted invitation of trying to take over England. The Civil War didn't last long. James ll fled to France, due to desertion from soldiers. William and Mary accept the throne.
The Bill of Rights was later on created. It laid the foundation for constitutional monarchy. Monarchy and parliament ruled together and destroyed the theory of Divine Rights of Kings.
