Charlie Gordon, a mentally disabled man, says that he wants to learn and to be smart in his classroom. Meanwhile Dr.Strauss and Dr.Nemar take note of this and ask Charlie if he would like to get operated, Charlie agrees. Before the operation a man named Burt asks Charlie to take the rorshach test (inkblot test)

As Dr.Nemar was preforming the operation. Dr.Strauss tells Miss. Kinnian about the operation and Miss. Kinnian is afraid of Charlie getting smarter.
After the operation a friendly man named Bert introduced Charlie to a mouse named Algernon and asked Charlie to take the Rorshach test again. people also began realizing that Charlie is getting smarter.
I don't understand or remember anything
As Charlie keeps getting smarter, he realizes that his "friends" weren't really his friends and that they made fun of him, he also started realizing that he was getting lonely.
Soon Algernon dies and Charlie starts crying. Later, Charlie tries to observe why this might have happened. Charlie finds out that Algernon was going through a stage of regression and he will also go through that faster than he thinks.
Soon, Charlie started losing his memory, he began forgetting how to spell and read. In the book when Charlie says he's going to leave, he tells Miss. Kinnian to stop by Algernon and give him flowers.
