Storyboard Text

  • The clergy, or the religious leaders of France
  • Before the revolution, there were three groups, or estates in France
  • The nobles, or the rich people of France
  • And the third estate, which was everyone else
  • All of the members of the Old Order met to talk about the financial crisis. There was unequal representation because the nobles outnumbered the third estate. So the third estate was unable to say their opinions.
  • I refuse to help you, and I command you to leave
  • Please help us King Louis!
  • The Bourgeoisie created the National Assembly, and pledged to meet until a constitution was written.
  • We need to separate ourselves from the other estates
  • Since King Louis and the nobles did not listen to us we will create our own group!
  • We are the majority of the population, and all of us are poor, but was pay all of the taxes!
  • The third estate was angry with the way the country was being run.
  • France was ruled by a monarchy, it had a king that decided everything. The king, Louis the 16th, was not a good leader, and soon the country was in massive debt.
  • We can't feed our families, and the rich don't pay a cent to get our country out of debt!
  • At the beginning of the revolution, the people stormed the Bastille, which was seen as a symbol of the old regime. It happened on July, 14th.
  • Take the prison!!
  • The people took the prison, the gunpowder and all the weapons inside to arm themselves. They also tore the prison apart brick by brick to show their anger with the old regime.
  • I hear that the king and his nobles are planning to silence our revolt! What do we do?
  • We must speak even louder! We will not be silenced!
  • The people began to worry that the aristocracy was trying to overthrow them, and that they soon would no longer have a revolution. The 3rd estate became even more determined to overthrow their government because of this "great fear"
