The first setting is in Kino’s home. His home is a small hut located near the coast in Mexico where most of the poorer people live. This is where Coyotito gets stung by a scorpion.
The village is where everyone with not a lot of money live,. The village is small and is called La Paz which means peace. The people in the village all know each other and when something happens they all want to know about it.
The beach is where people who look for pearls go to, and a lot of people go here because their houses are so close to it. Kino goes here with his canoe to go out into the water to look for the pearl.
Underwater is where Kino is diving trying to find a pearl to get money to give to the doctor so he will cure Coyotito. When Kino is under, he finds the large pearl that starts to bring him bad luck.
The town is where Kino and Juana go to see if they can sell the pearl for the money for Coyotito. The town is where people with more money live.
After being scammed by the pearl buyers in their own town, Kino, Juana, and Coyotito decide to take a trip to the capital where they will hopefully get the right amount of money for the pearl.
