  • War of 1812: Many African Americans served as laborers.
  • Indian Campaigns: African Americans were ordered to get rid of Native Americans in certain areas.
  • World War I: Faced racial segregation so were often assigned labor jobs but were called upon for duty
  • World War II: African Americans served undoubtedly for their country and were often treated as second class citizens.
  • Korean War: African Americans were now included in all major combat operations
  • Persian Gulf War: Black soldiers make up about 22 percent of the total army
