Alice and Harvey have been best friends since they were born. They drifted apart, but are close now because Alice was diagnosed with cancer. Alice makes a list of things she wants to do before she dies. Some things are wrong and include getting revenge. Harvey helps her because he is in love with her.
Alice was diagnosed with cancer and she was just told she is going into remission. She is forced to face the consequences of what she did when she thought she was dying. She is scared of living. She is in love with Harvey and she needs to face her feelings.
When Alice finds out that she is in remission and she is going to live, she starts avoiding Harvey and things are really weird between them.
Alice and Harvey get into a huge fight when their families are on vacation together. They decide that they can't be friends anymore, even though they are both still in love with each other.
In order to get Harvey to forgive her, Alice sends him on a scavenger hunt to find his grandfather. Harvey never knew his dad or his grandfather and always wanted to. In the last note of the scavenger hunt, Alice tells Harvey she loves him.
Harvey finds Alice sitting on her front porch, and can't find the words to express how he feels. The book ends with Alice whispering in his ear.
