  • Hi, I'm James Madison, the current president of the United Stares. I will be telling you all you need to know about the War of 1812!
  • The main causes of the war was impressment of American ships and the resistance of Native Americans.
  • The first phase of the war took place around the Great Lakes and Canada, where General William Henry Harrison and his army pushed the British army back into Canada and defeated them.
  • Phase 2 took place mainly along the east coast. After the British defeated Napoleon, they blockaded the eastern coast, marched to Washington DC, and burned down the White House.
  • In phase 3 of the war, the British attacked New Orleans and restricted use to the Mississippi River. Andrew Jackson lead the Americans to victory with only 71 American Casualties and over 2000 British casualties.
  • The main effects of the war are as follows: Increase in the manufacturing industry. The Native American forces were weakened, allowing for easier western expansion and settlement. A large increase in American patriotism, and Andrew Jackson is now seen as a hero.
