  • Finally done with chores.
  • Time fer supper.
  • I own a few slaves.
  • I'm one fer support'n slavery.
  • Greed is the real problem.
  • At the beginning of the chapter, everyone one is coming in of supper. They start to eat and have supper conversations. The conversation slowly turns to politics.
  • .   .   .   .   .
  • Politics slowly and inevitably invade the supper conversation. They began to talk about the states and if the South will secede. They began to talk about slavery.
  • We'll be going now.
  • Let's clean and wait for the others.
  • The conversation starts to become filled with anger. They began to share their very differing opinions about slavery. There starts to be disagreements about politics.
  • There's news about what is going on in the war.
  • As the conversation progressed, Ellen wanted everyone to stop talking about politics. Ellen did not want to the conversation to ruin supper. The table became filled with an awkward silence.
  • John and Nancy left after supper was over. Bill helped Jenny clean everything up.  They waited for the news to come back.
  • The other wait patiently to hear about if there is any news. Shadrach had returned with the news. There was news about the war.
