  • Ella is looking for her puppy shadow. She has been looking for him for hours until she comes across a river.
  • She finally finds shadow on the other side of the river
  • So ella decides to use her trig to find out how long a log needs to be for her to be able to walk across to shadow. She knows the tree next to shadow is 20 ft tall and there is a 60º angle from the ground to the top of the tree. So ella uses the trig function Tan (60º) = 20/x and divides Tan (60º) by 20 and gets 12ft when rounding to the nearest whole number. So now that she knows the width of the river she goes and gets a 12ft log.

  • Then Finally Shadow and Ella are reunited and they start to head home
  • So ella uses the trig function Tan (70º) = X/10 to find the height. She multiplies 10 by Tan (70º) and gets 27ft when rounded to the nearest whole number. Then to find how long the latter needs to be she uses the trig function Cos(70º) = Y/10 to find her hypotenuse. She multiplies 10 into Cos(70º) and gets 29ft when rounded to the nearest whole number.
  • On the way home they notice a kitty stuck on the ledge of a building. So ella decides to use her trig to figure out how high the ledge is so she can get a latter to help the kitty down. So ella knows that she is standing 10 feet from where the kitty is and that there is a 70º angle from where they are standing to the kitty.

  • But before ella could go get the ladder the kitty simply jumps down and walks away. Disappointed that she did all that work for nothing, she continues on home with shadow.
