Booo! High prices, and taxes for only the Third Estate!
Meeting of the Estates General
Before the Revolution, there was three estates, the First estate was the clergy, and everyone from the church. The Second estate, were nobles, and the Third were the peasants, and everybody else. The amount of people was very unequal, and only the Third estate had to pay taxes, giving half of their entire earnings to the First and Second estates.
The Tennis Court Oath
Some factors that led to the revolution were new enlightenment ideas were floating around, horrible harvests, and high taxes. Those hight taxes were also only for the third estate, the rich nobles and clergy didn't have to pay half of their earnings in taxes.
The Storming of the Bastille
In the estates general a lot of people from all of the estates came together to vote. Each estate had 1 vote, so the first and second expected to dominate, like usual. But, the third estate wanted things to finally be equal, so when they were locked out of the meeting they held there own on an indoor tennis court.
The Great Fear
At the Tennis Court they decided to stay there, and not leave until they had a constitution written. They were at the tennis court, because the king locked all of the third estate out of the estates general. They made themselves the National Assembly.
The National Assembly heard rumors that the king was going to take them down with military, so they decided to gather weapons from the prison (the Bastille). They stormed the Bastille, took gun powder and arms, then killed the guards, and set the prisoners free. The paraded around the street with the dead heads on sticks.
During the Great Fear the peasants thought that they were going to get attacked, so they attacked first. They became tyrants, broke into nobles houses, and burned all of the papers that tied them to pay taxes to those nobles and clergy.
