  • Exposition
  • A boy's parents have a baby boy named Doodle. At first, they think he's not going to live, but, he does. Doodle is different than most babies though.
  • Conflict
  • Doodle was born with disabilities and health conditions. The boy, named Brother, is unable to stand his brother not being normal.
  • Rising Action
  • Brother eventually realizes that he's stuck with his little brother Doodle. He tries to teach Doodle to be normal, such as teaching him to walk. Brother constantly pushes Doodle to learn new things. One day they find a scarlet ibis dead in their yard. Doodle becomes very attached to the bird and wants to bury it.
  • Climax
  • Brother! Don't leave me!
  • Falling Action
  • Resolution
  • On one of the last days of training, Doodle seems as if he's too weak to keep trying. Brother is very upset by this and goes home. On his walk home, there is a thunderstorm. Doodle is not able to keep up. As he always does, Doodle yells "Brother don't leave me."
  • Brother turns back to get Doodle, but finds him dead under a bush. He is the same position as the scarlet ibis that they found in the yard.
  • Brother realizes that he was inconsiderate and selfish. He should've thought a little more about Doodle rather than himself. Brother's mindset essentially killed Doodle.
