Storyboard Text

  • The entire play is about the development of Macbeth and his rise to glory and fall to death. The Second Witch says, "All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter" (1. 3. 49). 
  • The suffering of Macbeth ends with his murder at the blade of Macduff. Macduff says, "Hail, king, for so thou art. Behold where stands / Th'usurper's cursed head. The time is free" (5. 9. 21-22).
  • Macbeth is named Thane of Cawdor which brings glory ot him. Lady Macbeth says, "Whiles I stood rapt in the wonder / of it, came missives from the king who all-hailed me / Thane of Cawdor" (1. 5. 5-7). 
  • Macbeth falls from greatness until he loses everything. Seyton says, "The queen, my lord, is dead" (5. 5.16). 
  • Macbeth's life starts going downhill as soon as the Witches make their supernatural prophecy. The Third Witch says, "All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter" (1. 3. 48). 
  • Macbeth forces battle against all of the other thanes and important characters in the play. Caithness says, "And with him pour we in our country's purge, / Each drop of us" (5. 2. 29-30).
