  • "Wiglaf went quickly, keen to get back... he was hoping to find the leader... alive where he had left him, helpless, on the open ground..." (line 2783-87)
  • In this scene, Wiglaf is the rescue from without because he had previously abandoned Beowulf and comes back to save him.
  • "The treasure had been won, bought and paid for by Beowulf's death." (line 2843-44)
  • "The treasure had been won, bought and paid for by Beowulf's death." (line 2843-44)
  • This scene is the ultimate boon. After many trials, like the fight with Grendel and Grendel's mother, this is the last fight and the treasure is his reward he receives from it.
  • "The Geat people built a pyre for Beowulf... just as he had ordered." (line 3137-3140)
  • In a way, this is Beowulf's Crossing of the Return Threshold. He is safe from further pursuit and finally gets to rest with his mighty Thanes who have already left him.
