These six comic strips are showing the events of Jeannette Walls, the main character in the book The Glass Castle. Jeannette in this section has to deal with her new job at the jewelry store which goes well but she takes a expensive watch and realizing what her family would say she returned it. Jeannette also has to deal with her mother acting like a child instead of a parent, she wont get up to go teach at the school. Another event that is significant is when the closest person in Jeanette's life violates her trust, after Rex hit's Jeannette with his belt she goes for a walk and realized that no one would ever do that to her again. Jeannette decided to run away with Lori to New York when she is old enough, cause she finally realized that she needs to get away from her parents.

In this section it shows Jeannette with her job at the Jewelry store. Her boss left his keys behind while he was going out to lunch, Jeannette then stole the watch that was in the case.
A woman that worked in the store came in one day and gave Jeanette beauty tips, she also mention that she should be getting paid commission. They also talk about how you can make more then forty bucks if you sign up for welfare.
This scene is showing how when Rosemary gets home from school she tells Jeannette that it made her focus and realize that she needed to quit her job and paint full time. Jeannette, Lori, and Brian all try to wake up there mom in the morning to go to school but she doesnt wanna go making kid excuses.

In this part Rex gets home to find out that Jeannette was yelling at her mother and saying the truth about how she needs to keep her job, and that she needs to actually act like a mother.
Rex is ordering Jeannette to apologize to Rosemary for giving her attitude but Jeannette says no. Rex then beat Jeannette with his belt about 6 times.
After Rex hit Jeannette she ran into the woods, after a while she realized that Lori knew what she was talking about because now Jeannette is going to save enough money to get away from her family.
