  • A bird that's been watching over Bilbo and the dwarves flies to Lake Town and finds Bard and tells him about Smaug's weak spot. Bard takes his bow and when Smaug flies over Lake Town, he shoots him in the chest, killing the dragon.
  • Rising Action Event
  • Bilbo and the dwarves wait to see if Smaug is going to come back and when he doesn't, Bilbo sneaks back down to the treasure room and finds the giant diamond, the Arkenstone of Thrain, but doesn't tell the dwarves that he's found the stone.
  • Climax
  • News spreads that Smaug is dead. The Elvenking of Mirkwood and the men of Lake Town come and confront Thorin about sharing in the dwarves' wealth, but Thorin refuses to share any of the gold and this is about to start a war between them.
  • Falling Action & Resolution
  • During the night, Bilbo takes the Arkenstone and gives it to Bard so he can use it to get Thorin to share the gold with the men and the elves. They then find out from Gandalf that the goblins and the evil wolves are getting ready to attack all of them.
  • The elves, dwarves, and men band together to fight off the goblins and wolves and win the Battle of the Five Armies thanks to the help of Beorn and the giant eagles. Thorin is mortally wounded in battle but makes up with Bilbo before he dies.
  • The Arkenstone is returned & the wealth is shared by all. Gandalf and Bilbo visit friends as they travel back to Bilbo's cozy home, where Bilbo finds he's lost his reputation & that all of his belongs are being sold off because he'd been declared dead.
