"Before this Earth existed, there was only water. It stretched as far as one could see, and in that water there were birds and animals swimming around."
The Ancient Chief listened to his young wife as she had told him her dream about the tree. The Chief thought the dream must be a symbol of evil in the tree and they decided to take it down.
The Ancient Chief got a lot of young men together to try to uproot the tree, but none of them could. So the old man himself pulled and pulled until the tree came out.
The wife of the chief looked down the hole. She thought she saw something down there glistening. She tried to get a better look but she fell through and went down, down, down, down.
The animals saw that she was falling and the swans flew up to save her. "She is not like us. She doesn't have webbed feet. What shall we do?" “I know,” said one of the water birds. “I have heard that there id Earth far below the waters. If we dive down and bring up Earth, then she will have a place to stand.”
"She has the Earth," they said. "Now where can we put it?"
So the woman stood on the Earth and with the seeds in her hand, the trees and grass sprang up. Life on Earth had just begun.
