The moon is down. I have not heard the clock.
It is late at night and Banquo can't sleep. He is very alert of every sound. This is a foreshadow because he doesn't know that Duncan will be killed that night.
Duncan wanted to give this diamond to Lady Macbeth because of her hospitality.
We didn't prepare as much for the king as we wanted to.
Duncan thanks Lady Macbeth for her hospitality by giving her a diamond. He doesn't know why she is really being so nice.
Is this a dagger I see? Facing toward my hand?
At the end of Act II, scene 1, Macbeth explains in his soliloquy that he sees a dagger but doesn't know if it is real or if it is a hallucination.
