Storyboard Text

  • 1858: Illinois "House Divided" Senate Speech
  • SLAVERY SHALL LAST FOREVER!! We should NOT break apart from the Union my brethren! Slavery is a way of life, and we should not get in its way.
  • A house divided against itself cannot stand! This great nation can not stand being half slave and half free. I don't expect the Union to be at peace but it will NOT be divided!
  • 1860: Lincoln becomes the 16th President of the USA
  • I call for a COMPROMISE! I will not initiate force to maintain the Union or interfere with slavery in the states in which it already existed and I will not give up control of federal territory!
  • 1860: The South Succeeds
  • Angry Plantation Owner (2): Lincoln is NOT my president, he doesn't even consider the Southerners viewpoint on things, he is NOT fit to be my president!! And the only way to solve this formidable issue is to leave the Union!!
  • Angry Plantation Owner (1): We MUST leave the UNION!! Lincoln continues to overlook our way of thinking!! He doesn't even want us to separate!! THERE IS NO OTHER SOLUTION OTHER THAN TO SUCCEED!! It's either our way or the HIGHWAY!
