Storyboard Text

  • The Distributive Property & Removal of Like Terms...
  • The next step after this is to cancel out like terms on each side of the equation, which is 9x.
  • So what your husband told you was not gibberish it was a math equation. The first step I did in solving was distributing the 3 to everything in the parentheses.
  • The Second Step...
  • 9x-7i>3(3x-7u) 9x-7i>9x-21u -7i>-21u 7i>21u
  • The Understanding...
  • Yes good job. After you do that, then you want to flip the > sign to a < sign.
  • Ohhh I get it now. So would my next step be dividing each side by seven to get the i by itself?
  • After showing her work, the waiter explains how in the distributive property, the number outside of the parentheses is distributed to the numbers on the inside. As well as, she also explains the second step which is the removal of like terms.
  • The Third Step...
  • 9x-7i>3(3x-7u) 9x-7i>9x-21u -7i>-21u 7i>21u i<3u
  • On her phone, the waiter shows how she cancels out the like terms by removing the 9x from each side of the equation.
  • The Relief...
  • YAYYYYYY!!!
  • By the third step, Ana finally understood and she was even able to figure out the next step which was to isolate the i variable.
  • The Response...
  • Ana then shows the work by dividing each side of the equation by 7 to isolate the variable.
  • On her way back home, Ana was ecstatic as she knew her Ricardo loved her back.
  • Happy to see her husband, Ana responds with her own mathematical equation.
  • 9x-7i>3(3x-7u)+2. P.S. ignore the plus sign after you solve. Ha Ha.
