  • St. Teresa of Avila was born on March 28, 1515 in Avila, Spain
  • Despite of her fathers opposition she entered the Carmelite Convent of the Incarnation of Avila
  • Within two years her health collapsed, for 3 years she was invalid, she loved mental pray, and after recovery she stopped praying
  • Did not pray for fifteen years and then went under a religous conversion
  • Her reform required utter withdrawl so that the nuns could meditate on divine law and throught a prayful life of penance 
  • She then opened her first convent at St. Joseph's of the Carmelite reform
  • John Baptist Rossie, the Carmelite prior genral from Rome, went to Avila and approved the remorm
  • Despite her health and difficulties, Teresa spent the rest of her life establishing and nuturing 16 more convents throughtout Spain
