IC Hawks, the team I played for in softball. We had many great athletes and team mates. We were solid 12u competitors and were ready to take on the challenge of state. We had placed 2nd in all tournaments and once 3rd. With our success and hard work, I knew that we were prepared for state.
We drove up to a place called, Nevada. We stayed in a hotel due to the distance. My team went to a very nice barbecue house, that was so busy it required us to have reservations ahead of time. Once we finished eating we went swimming in the pool area. After we got a talk from the coaches about state, and then received little gifts from the parents.
Our first day at state we played Marion, Muskies and the Cougars. We beat all 3 teams and didn't allow any of them to score any runs. The first day was a success and after the hard work we had a pizza party/swam. We stayed up until we rubbed our eyes with exhaustion. We woke the next morning for the next day of state.
I have realized a lot after this game and it has really had an impact on me, showing a new perspective. Now I know how to handle situations like these. Even though we might have not earned 1st place, we still tried our hardest and battled. Can't wait to play that team next year!
In the morning we played a team that we have never beat before and that was the Monsters. We played very hard but ended up losing. Then in the semi finals we played North Scott, a team that had beat us both times we played them. We battled really hard and we ended up winning! Now we just had the championship to win!
We stepped on the field ready to play. The whole game they had kept scoring and we had 0. We were now in a situation where they would run rule us if the person on 3rd scored. The ball was hit they won 8-0. We had battled very hard all state and I was proud of where we had ended up. We were basically a school team and we were the 2nd best team in the state. That is a great accomplishment.
Looking back to this day I realized that you don't win at everything, but you have to keep your head up and think positive about the situation. We did great and battled our hardest, we just didn't end up getting 1st. This whole experience has really impacted me in a positive way and has made me look in a new perspective.
