  • God manifested this into our life!
  • Mountain men are animal trappers who often had a very rugged look, They were some of the first people who traveled to the Oregon area. They had very challenging lives, having to go through the long and cold winters. The plus for this life style was the profit of trading furs.
  • Mexican-American War
  • The Oregon Trail is a 2,000 mile long route to get to Oregon County. It starts in Independence, Missouri and takes about 5 months to make a fully complete trip.
  • Mormons in Utah
  • We are Mormons!
  • Manifest destiny was the idea that God's plan was for America to expand westward. This idea was put in a newspaper in New York and spread around the colonies. This was also used to make right of pushing the natives out of their land.
  • California Gold Rush
  • Gold! I'm going to be rich!
  • This was a fight between America and Mexican citizens for the ownership of Texas. When Spain had the ownership of that piece of land, they allowed US citizens to start colonies in Texas. When Mexico won independence from Spain, they wanted them to follow their rules and beliefs, which US citizens did not follow. This started a conflict, with America eventually winning the ownership of Texas.
  • Mormons are a more recent religion following the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Founded by Joseph Smith in New York, 1830. They believed property should be owned in common and that men should have more than one wife. This angered others, soon forcing the Mormons west.
  • When a man, John Sutter, found gold on his land in Northern California, word spread quickly. People from all over, other states, Europe, Australia, South America, and even China start going to California to find gold. Only few actually found mass amounts of gold, but this made many people to start living in California, eventually making California a state in 1850.
