Now we'll give you this vaccine so you don't get sick, Avery.
Well, aren't vaccines bad for us? I thought it gave our body the disease.
Our bodies are marvelous at defending against infections, but we have to help defend. So we created vaccines to help. It's an agent that stimulates the immune system to provide protection. So, essentially, yes, you do have a bit of the disease in you, but it's only in the smallest quantity for your body to make antibodies for you, in case you do become sick.
Wow, thanks Doc. That's really helpful.
Even our beloved cats and dogs have vaccines, so you'll be alright. Every vaccine is thoroughly studied and can take years to research, study, make and manufacture. There are still vaccines being studied and made for current diseases that have been around for decades, even centuries.
