Athena and (peter) have a debate for class and she ends up winning hte debate but peter is angry so he bullies and insults her, but she holds her ground and her friends come to her aid. She realizes that she is capable of overcoming her fears.
The Road Back
for her final assignment she must present a plan to address a major issue in the nation. she must presented it before congress and this will determine if she will pass or fail.
she is able to graduate from the academy and is made an assistant to Congressman Thomas
Athena is unable to change the fate of her grandfather, but to honor his memory she dedicates herself to caring for his garden. (this has symbolic significance bc many of his plants are rare or desert cacti that only bloom after "a hundred years")
she discovers that many of the powerful figures in congress are unwilling to change their ways, and that although she may have won the battle, the war was just beginning. she must come to terms with the fact that she may not live to see her dreams fulfilled. that this mission will require her life dedication to achieve such dramatic change.
