¨Did yo pay a bushel of potatoes for him ?¨ I asked, but Atticus shook his head at me.¨(p.32).
You are being a girl. if you keep on acting like one go find someone else to play with.
I suppose she chose me because she chose my name; as I read the alphabet...she discovered that I was literate and looked at me with more than faint distaste.¨(p.22). This quote shows Scout is smart Because she was the only one in her class that knew what the teacher wrote on the board. Scout is the only person in her grade that knows how to read. She wants to learn more even though her teacher is limiting her knowledge.
¨Miss. Maudie, ¨ I said one evening, ¨do you think Boo Radley´s still alive?¨(p.57).
¨I know he is alive, Jean Louise, because I haven´t seen him carried out yet.¨(p.57).
This quote shows that scout is outspoken because she says what comes to her mind even though it may be rude. Her saying what she wants has gotten her into trouble, and through out the book the reader sees her become more outspoken like in this quote when she mentions something rude to Walter. Scout saying what she wants has also progressed into her cussing, which her uncle disproves of.
¨...Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imaged things, that´s why other people hated them so, and if I started behaving like one I could just go off and find someone to play with.¨(p.54). This quote shows that Scout is a follower because the reader learns that she looks up to her brother and is with him most of the time. She is a follower because she wants to fit in with both Dill and Jem. All of her friends are boys and she has grown to believe that being a girl is a negative thing.
¨A n-lover. I ain´t sure what it means, but the way Francis said it-tell you one thing right now, Uncle Jack...¨(p.114).
¨What did Francis call him?¨
This quote is showing that Scout is curious because she asks someone about Boo Radley. The Radleys are a topic that a lot of people do not like to talk about because of the rumor that were spread about Boo. Her curiosity leads them to try leaving a letter for boo and later finding out that he is alive, with out her curiosity she would not have learned that he is still alive.
¨My fists were clenched and I was ready to let them fly...I learned to hold in the better everyone would be. I soon forgot. Cecil Jacobs made me forget.(p.99). This quote shows that Scout is aggressive because she was ready to fight Cecil. Scout is known to get in fights with children in her school. Her father even told her not to stop getting into fights.
Take it back!
¨What did Francis call him?¨ ¨A n-lover. I ain´t sure what it means, but the way Francis said it-tell you one thing right now, UncThis quote shows that Scout is naive because she does not fully understand what the N word means. She has not yet been exposed to all of the racism in her town and does not now how hurtful that word is.
