Storyboard Text

  • We better contact Canada and get their help.
  • President Kenedy, we have a report from our spies saying that Cuba is developing missiles with the USSR. What do we do?
  • Prime Minister Diefenbaker, we have word from President Kenedy asking for help against Cuba and the Soviets. What shall Canada do?
  • Honestly I am very hesitant to do so. I would like to see Canada man for help.
  • In 1962, the Soviet Union stationed missiles on the island of Cuba which posed a threat to the USA and Canada as the missiles were capable of hitting both countrys. America sent spies to Cuba. This brought the world close to a nuclear war.
  • Once the USA found out about the missiles, US mountain a naval blockade on Cuba, threatened the USSR and turned to Canada in hopes of military support.
  • The two leaders did not get along well and had different political standings. Op top of that, Diefenbaker was upset as America did not consult Canada earlier. The slow actions of Diefenbaker lead to worsening already tense US and Canadian relations.
