Storyboard Text

  • Citizens United v. Federal  Election Commission Caroline Perry  Period 5
  • Interesting that Citizens United decided to air a criticism of a presidential candidate, regardless of the McCain-Feingold Act, or Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act. I'm going to tell my friends to start a huge argument.
  • Hillary: The Movie by citizens United
  • Maybe it'll even reach the Supreme Court...
  • Hey, it's my friends Citizens United and Federal Election Committee. Have you heard about Hillary: The Movie?
  • CU: It's our right to free speech!!!
  • FEC: Gotta say looks pretty anti-McCain-Feingold Act to us. Big money in elections is bad. We may challenge you on it.
  • ...such as broadcasting electioneering communications before an election.
  • Hey SCOTUS. I want to bring this to you. We're thinking that Hillary: the Movie is pretty anti-McCain-Feingold Act. It seems to violate a few things...
  • Great! we've been bored. Can't wait to argue over whether or not this Hillary: the Movie should be allowed.
  • On this day, January 21, 2010, the Supreme Court has decided that Hillary: the Movie is not a form of electioneering communications. We're going to overturn section 441 of the FEC's restrictions on expenditures. This violated the 1st Amendment.
  • So glad the Supreme Court made their decision to promote free speech. Just because we may be an Interest Group, it does not mean we will use unreasonable sums of money to influence an election. Glad they overturned acts and extensions of acts, such as McConnell v. FEC and section 203 of restrictions on federal expenditures. Our right to free speech is restored.
