The narrator is sitting in his library on a bleak December night reading trying to forget his sorrow for his dead wife Lenore.
The narratoropens his window due to a tapping noise. Then in steps a stately raven. Upon realizing it speaks, the narrator begins to ask the raven questions about his dead wife, Lenore.
In this scene the narrator has discovered that the raven will not answer his questions, and he accuses it of being the devil. Further, he chases it around his house and finally evicts it out of the door.
