my brother, the hunter says he will marry the woman that can see him!
This story is told deep in the forest, in an Ojibwa village. A girl who lives with her father and two sisters, but the sisters give her all of the hard chores and call her awful names and make her do all the chores. Then they smear her face with ash and call her soot-face. And when their father came home, the sisters always said the same lie. ¨Clumsy little soot-face, she was walking and fell into the fire place again!¨
¨Now there was a mighty warriorbwho lived with his sister in a wigwam across the lake A great medicine man gave him the power to make hiself invisible.¨ That warrior sent his sister to the town with a message. ¨I will mary the woman who can see me¨.
Every girl, even her sisters went to test their luck and see if they would be his bride. when they got there, the sister would ask them if they could tell her what his bow was made of. Many tried, none succeded.
Soootface decides that she wants to go and try to marry the hunter, but her sisters, still angry about their experiences said no.
when sootface goes to see the sister, a strange man approches, and soot-face asks the sister if she knows him. hurridly, she askes sootface what his bow is made of, and as soon as the word rainbow the hunter declared her as his bride.
the hunter leaves a large deer and a note outside their house, announcing their engagement, the sisters had to learn to do all the chores all by themselves and sootface lived happily ever after. THE END
